Leaving Your Puppy For The First Time? What To Know

If you are leaving a puppy for the first time and you are worried about where to leave him, and how the pet will be when you are gone, there are some things that you want to do before you leave. To make sure that your dog is properly cared for while you are away, and that the people caring for him are prepared, be sure to do these three things for the safety of your pet and for your own peace of mind.

Interview the Boarding Facility

Don't just call around to get pricing for local dog boarding facilities. Instead, make sure that you interview the different boarding facilities in person. While there, look into these different things:

  • Sleeping areas and cages
  • Vaccination requirements
  • Play time policy
  • Areas for play
  • Cost and feeding arrangements

The boarding facility may offer some of this information online or when you call, but you want to see what is going on at the building yourself, and before you arrange for your pet to stay there.

Find a Pet Hospital

You never know what can happen while you're away, and your pet could end up getting bitten, becoming sick, or have some other type of emergency that requires veterinarian treatment. You want to find a local pet hospital that you will feel comfortable with for emergency services, and request that your pet be taken to that place if anything were to happen.

Pack all the Comforts of Home

There are a lot of things that could make your pet feel more at home and less homesick while you are away. Be sure to pack a bed, pillow, toy or special item that they like, and not to try new things while you are away. Provide the care facility with their favorite brand of food, and with treats that you already know they like, so there are no digestive or eating issues while you are away.

There are a lot of different things that you want to do to prep your puppy for when you will be away, and having the pet interact with other dogs and getting used to taking direction from others is a great way to start. Talk with local dog boarding professionals in the area so you can find the right type of home for your dog while you are gone, and be sure that they are healthy and ready to mingle with other animals.

About Me

Seeking Help For Our Pets

Do you remember the last time your animals started having health trouble? I have always been one of those people who is overly conscious about their pet's health, which is why I started paying more and more attention to the veterinarians in my area who offered services. I was able to find a vet who really took our pet's problems seriously, and he started talking with us about different issues our animal was faced with. Because of our dog's vet, he is alive and well today. Check out this blog for more information that could help you to keep your pet happy and healthy.
